Embedded Systems Seminar: Silicon Valley
August 3-4, 2004
Westin Santa Clara
Santa Clara, CA

It's a wrap!
This two-day intensive seminar took place August 3-4 in Santa Clara. It featured some of the most requested and highly regarded embedded experts from the Embedded Systems Conference presenting sessions focused on the basics of embedded systems development. Topics included: wireless systems design, real-time development, FPGA design, and embedded project management.

Thank you to all of the event sponsors who participated in the Embedded Systems Seminar: Silicon Valley.

Keynote: Reformat the Dog
Jim Turley, Editor-in-Chief, Embedded Systems Programming

Heard the one about the electronic lollipop? Or the 8-bit computerized Frisbee? And what's that buzzing inside Senator John Glenn's intestines? Microprocessors and computers have found their way into the most bizarre, unexpected, and ridiculous places, and they're here to stay. They're in our homes, our cars, and even ourselves. Imagine the heartache when a robotic pet crashes and it's time to reboot the family dog. A fun and penetrating view of the industry we work in and help create.

Panel Discussion: Soft Processors and Configurable Chips
Moderator: Jim Turley, Editor-in-Chief, Embedded Systems Programming
Panelists:

Gary Banta, President, Stretch Inc.
Derek Meyer, VP Marketing, ARC International
David Malek, VP Marketing, SandBridge Technology
Tim Allen, Senior Director, NIOS-II Development, Altera
Nick Tredennick, TechNerds International

This panel highlights a new generation of microprocessors that are programmable in an entirely different way -- the hardware itself can change. Programmers can now alter the processor's resources, instruction set, performance, or power using C code or other familiar tools. Are these new chips at the vanguard of a wave of advancement, or are they detours on theroad to better embedded systems?
